Summary: The US Food and Drug Administration recently approved a high-sensitivity (hs) troponin T (cTnT) assay that has greater sensitivity and precision than the conventional fourth-generation cTnT assay currently in use in the United States.1 Using this assay, European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guidelines endorse a 0/1hour “rule-out” of myocardial infarction (MI) in low-risk individuals,2 as well as a more traditional 3-hour algorithm.3 However, the safety and effectiveness of rapid MI rule-out algorithms using hs-cTnT in US practice have not been established.
