Summary: Experimental and epidemiological studies provide compelling evidence of a causal link between increasing exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (environmental contaminants with the potential to perturb the development and function of the endocrine system) and increases in non-communicable diseases, including most aspects of metabolic syndrome. Indeed, increasing concern about the health effects posed by endocrine-disrupting chemicals has prompted two position statements from the Endocrine Society.
